Impeachment motion against CJ Rana sent to House committee
The House of Representatives (HoR) has sent the impeachment motion against Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana to the impeachment recommendation committee.
The HoR on Sunday discussed the impeachment motion against Rana.
After the discussion, Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota submitted a proposal to send the impeachment motion to the HoR-formed Impeachment Recommendation Committee.
Speaker Sapkota’s proposal was approved by a majority in the HoR.
LSP Chairman Thakur holding talks with PM Deuba
Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) Chairman Mahantha Thakur held talks with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Thakur met Prime Minister Deuba at 4 pm at the PM’s official residence in Baluwatar, Kathmandu, on Sunday.
According to LSP leader Sharad Singh Bhandari, the agenda of the meeting is LSP’s support to government, participation in the government and request to withdraw cases against activists of Madesh movement.
‘No Horn’ campaign re-launched in Kathmandu Valley
The ‘No Horn’ campaign has been re-launched in Kathmandu Valley from Sunday.
The campaign was jointly re-launched by Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balendra Shah and Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office Chief Deputy Inspector General of Police Meera Chaudhary amidst a program in the capital today.
To launch the campaign, Mayor Shah and DIG Chaudhary pasted yellow stickers written “No Horn” on each other’s vehicles. The campaign is a part of community-police partnership program.
Reports presented in the HoR session
A report of the Agriculture, Cooperatives and Natural Resources in regard with the ‘Bill relating to Animal Health and Livestock Services Council’ was presented in Friday’s meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR).
Committee President Purna Kumari Subedi presented the report before the HoR meeting.
Similarly, Minister of State at the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Umesh Shrestha, presented the 59th annual report of the Auditor General, 2079 BS in the meeting. The document was tabled on behalf of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Call to roll back tax increase
The Nepali Congress Gandaki Provincial Committee has demanded immediate cancellation of the taxes raised by the Gandaki province government.
Party spokesperson Madhav Prasad Banstola has drawn the government’s attention towards the decision causing suffering to the people and demanded that last year’s tax rate kept unchanged.
Decisions have been taken against the sentiments of the people, which needs to be immediately amended.
Nepal sees 553 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours
Nepal recorded a total of 553 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Sunday.
Out of the confirmed cases, 451 were detected through the RT-PCR method and 102 through the Antigen method.
According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 3,789 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.
Of them, 2,040 samples were tested through RT-PCR and 1,749 through the Antigen method.
NEPSE gains 10.27 points, closes at 2,123.82
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index gained 10.27 points and closed at 2,123.82 points on Sunday. The index had lost 34.61 points on Friday.
The index registered a gain of 0.49 percent on the first trading day of the week.
The index that opened at 2,109.41 points made an intraday low of 2,107.49 and an intraday high of 2,133.62 before closing at 2,123.82 points.
A total of 6,106,521 units of shares of 219 companies traded via 44,240 transactions, resulting in daily turnover of Rs 2.67 billion. Friday’s trading turnover was Rs 3.76 billion.
